German Violin Bow, Markneukirchen School c.1925

A violin bow in the Markneukirchen tradition which is beautifully straight and with a fantastic camber that allows the bow to perform smooth long bows and all the special bowing required of the advanced and advancing student.

Markneukirchen in Saxony is the home of many of the most famous names in German bow making. These famous workshops supplied bows for violin makers and shops around Europe. Many bows, like this fine Pernambuco stick, were left unstamped so that the receiving shop could apply their own brand. Not all shops applied their own brands and so large numbers of these superb bows remained unstamped leaving the precise workshop of origin lost to the mists of time. Now, of course, all these years later, to know the name of the workshop of origin would be so rewarding but, unfortunately, it’s not to be.
